Homesick vs. Wanderlust (aka Fernweh)

Back in Germany I always thought that everything that is not german is better. I felt like I need to go to other countries and explore new things. Since I'm here and I'm missing my home, I recognized how much I love my home country.

America is pretty and I love to discover new things. I'm in love with the big cities around Delaware. I love that even we are around big cities, we live just about an hour away from the beach.

But anyways I miss my home country a lot. I miss the landscape:
- mountains
- forests
- lakes
- german nature

I also miss the transportations. I miss the "Autobahnen" the most. I also miss the trains. We don't have a train station in Middletown and I'm not supposed to ride the train, because it's too dangerous. I also miss my bicycle a lot! I was able to reach everything in my or the next town with my bicycle. If I couldn't reach it, I took the train. Here in America I always need someone who can give me a ride. I can't even walk somewhere, because there are no sidewalks!!

Then I really really miss bakeries and butchers (Bäcker und Metzger). I miss "Vollkornbrot" (really healthy bread, that's black) and I miss "Wurstbrot" (sausage bread) sooooo much! I'm sick of toasts!  And I miss sparkling Water called "Sprudel".

I also miss German humor, German character, German cleanness and German hugs!

But the most I miss my family and my friends. I also learned how important my family and my friends for me are. I wouldn't stand here today if I wouldn't have them. So, thank you so much ! ♥

So back to the topic. I'm in love with travelling. I love just sitting in the car and seeing the 2 orange lines between the road. Long rides don't seem so long in America than they would in Germany.
I'm in  love with Root Beer and Bagels.
It's such a great feeling when you get compliments about how good your language got. It's also a wonderful feeling when you recognize that you got a second family. My family by choice.

I can't wait to explore more parts of America.
